Who This Helps

Good forApprentices nearing completion and planning exam preparation
Good forLearners confused by Certificate of Apprenticeship, provisional C of Q, and Certificate of Qualification wording
Good forExperienced workers deciding whether Trade Equivalency Assessment may apply
01

The usual apprentice path

  • Register an apprenticeship with a sponsor through Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Complete required on-the-job and in-school training while keeping records current.
  • Finish the apprenticeship completion process and receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship.
  • If the trade has a certifying exam, prepare for and pass the certifying exam.
  • Follow Skilled Trades Ontario certification steps for the Certificate of Qualification.
02

Experienced workers may have a different path

Experienced workers who did not complete an Ontario apprenticeship may be able to use Skilled Trades Ontario Trade Equivalency Assessment if they can prove equivalent skills and experience.

That process determines whether you can challenge the certifying exam. Use the official Trade Equivalency Assessment page before assuming which route applies.

Where the app fits

309A Practice Tests does not determine eligibility, issue credentials, or schedule exams. It helps you practise the concepts and review weak areas once you are preparing for the exam.

Use official links for requirements and use practice questions for study. Keeping those roles separate makes the process much less confusing.
